Maria Genné dancer, choreographer and educator founded Kairos Dance Theatre, now Kairos Alive!, in 1999. With her intergenerational dance troupe and   professional teaching artists, she created the Dancing Heart™, an innovative arts intervention and wellbeing program, designed to tap into the artistry and creativity of older adults and invite them to be collaborators in the artistic process of dance, music and storytelling, based in the latest scientific research. The Dancing Heart™ has been awarded an Archstone Innovations Award from the American Public Health Association, a MetLife Mind Alert Award and a Rosalinde Gilbert Innovations in Alzheimer’s Disease Caregiving Award, as well as several regional awards and honors. Genné’s choreography of 70+ dances is recognized for its “ability to highlight the beauty of human experience through movement and story.” Named an “Art Hero” by Minnesota Public Radio in 2013, Genné and Ida Arbeit, 101 years, were featured in TPT’s “Minnesota Original” series. Genné, Kairos and the Dancing Heart™ are featured in the 2012 national PBS two-part series, The ARTS & the MIND. (169)
